Beautiful but not actually red
"Although I usually like more muted dinnerware patterns, I've fallen in love with the happy Pistoulet. I ordered a set for a gift and several pieces for myself, including one "red" and one blue plate. I usually like blue better, but my "red" plate is my favorite of the two because I like the pale yellow with soft green center better. The narrow dotted outer band on the two match. As many reviews have noted, the "red" is NOT red; it's more of a very nice soft-but-not-pale coral color, so be aware of that. (I don't usually like coral but I love this plate!) These are large, bold (in a good way), beautiful plates in cheerful colors. Part of the plate is a wide rim making the flat center area smaller but still large enough. I also love the blue accent and vine design salad plate. I hope Pistoulet is never discontinued, and I love the open stock availability."

"The dinner plates are nicer than I had hoped. It is difficult to tell all the details for online pictures. I am happy with the size. However, if you are looking for a dinner plate where you can use the entire surface, this is not for you! The red band (see note) is a good inch wide, however this is not an area that is useable. The inner yellow surface is lower than the red band. It's more like a very shallow bowl. I actually like that because it prevents spillage, and it allows for healthy proportions. The colors are gorgeous and very complementary. Better than the online pictures NOTE: The band is not a true red, but rather a darker salmon color. It does not detract from the plates beauty, however! My husband actually commented on how much he "loves" the color! Said that it is a unique, soothing color! I, too, agree! Glad it isn't a bright, distracting red!"
